Animal Habits – Correcting Bad Habits

Training your cat to stop bad habits requires you to know how to correctly identify bad dog or cat habits. Most owners do not realize that the animal habits they see are their pets’ own habits. This is a great problem to have because there is no point in punishing an animal for something it has already done.

In order to correctly identify bad dog or cat habits, you must know what the animal does and what type of habits it has. For example, a dog might urinate in the house while it is sleeping. Some breeds of dogs will urinate anywhere that they feel like it. Cats also have their own likes and dislike when it comes to how they urinate.

Why Animals Follow Their Habits Regularly?

Most animals will follow their own set of bad habits but certain animals tend to follow habits that are different from the others. An example would be a cat that likes to eat and sleep together with its owner. There are times that the cat will have its litter box on top of its litter tray but other times it will go on the floor or even the kitchen table.

Having a look at the animal’s entire body will show you if it is following a bad habit or not. The tongue can be a very strong signal as well as what the eyes tell you about what the cat or dog is doing.

There are times when you will need to identify bad habits in order to correct them. For example, if you notice that your pet is urinating on the carpet then this is an easy mistake to correct. By correcting the behavior by getting it to use the litter box, you will avoid the litter box from being used by another animal.

You can also identify the bad habit by watching the cat or dog for long periods of time before using the litter box. If you are trying to get a cat or dog to use the litter box regularly then it is very important that you observe the behavior and know how long it will take the animal to begin using the litter box.

Some Real Examples: Animal Habits – Correcting Bad Habits

For example, if the animal’s bladder is full but it has only a small amount of urine in it, then it should not be used frequently. If the bladder is only slightly full then it should be used but the animal should have an accident within ten minutes. You want to be able to spot a pet that is urinating often because the behavior can be a warning sign that a bladder infection is beginning.

When you find an animal that is urinating often, you should try to avoid using the litter box because you may be trying to force it to use the litter box instead of letting it naturally use the litter box on its own. Try to use the litter box after the animal has urinated once.

You should also be patient with an animal when it is first learning a new behavior. Cats and dogs can be stubborn but if you are patient you will be rewarded with a happier animal. Make sure that you praise the animal often and encourage them to work towards correcting their bad habits.
