Animal Nutrition: Feeding And Taking Care Of Nursing Cat

Animal Nutrition: Feeding And Taking Care Of Nursing Cat

Animal nutrition should be taken care of. When a cat delivers, you will see how the mother cat takes care of her kittens. The job of fostering homes is to provide a calm, safe, and nurturing environment. Your cat will become aggressive and will not take care of her kittens if she is stressed. It can also lead to cannibalism in some extreme cases. You need to provide the cat with an environment in which she feels safe. For the first two weeks, the mom cat will not allow her kittens to mix with your other pets.

Feeding The Nursing Cat:

We see that most of the queens after the birthing process and after the delivery are not interested to eat. But after 24 hours of delivering her last kitten, she will start to eat and will eat a lot. To look after the kittens you need a lot of energy. The queen must eat sufficiently to provide for her newborn kittens. Feed the cats as much as they want to eat. High-quality food is sufficient for your cat. But many vegetarians suggest feeding the new mother a special nursing diet. This diet will provide the extra calories which will help your cat to produce more milk. Keep your cat’s food bowl full. Some nursing cats may eat four times their normal amount. After a month you will see that the cat will slowly get back to her normal diet and switch to the adult diet.

Monitor The Health Of The Nursing Cat:

Check whether the cat and her kittens are healthy. Take your cat and her kittens to a veterinarian within 24 hours after delivery. The veterinarian will examine the cat’s and her kittens. Whether all the kittens have been delivered and whether the mother cat is producing enough milk. A vet will give you all the instructions that you follow to take care of them. And when should you start giving the kittens solid food.

Animal Nutrition: Socialize The Kittens

You need to give some assistance to the kittens to be pets. When the kittens are 2 weeks start handling them. Be sure that you along with your family members handle the kittens with utmost care. Handle and play with the kittens through the 7th week. This time is the main time for their socializing period.

The mother cats are nervous about their kittens and will not leave them for at least the first 24 hours. The cat will do without food and water but will not leave their kittens. Some will also not visit the litter box. Hence it is important to keep the food and water close to her. Also, keep the litter box close to her weaning box. After about a week the mother cat will feel relaxed and may move out. But you still should keep the water food and litter box nearby.
